My Red Telephone, Betty Power’s debut album, was written and recorded in Los Angeles, CA. The collaboration is a musical summary of the new odd couple, Betty Power and Danny M, the production team and primary writers on the record.
The music is 21st century rock and roll. It is a hybrid of electric and resonator guitars, ska and electronica, and a healthy dose of surf punk and old school funk. The result is an offspring that keeps its rock credibility; yet maintains an indie vibe, peppered with dance floor moments, and always defiantly pop.
Having completed the album, independently, in December of 2005, the band estimates a drop date of April, 2006.
After a year and a half working together and the album finished, the band is now able to focus its energy entirely upon what it does best: performing for it's diverse, loyal and rapidly growing fan base.
In the relatively short time they have been playing, Betty Power have played to audiences from 40 to 10,000 at some high profile venues such as Highland Grounds, The Avalon, The Sound Arena Hollywood, Musician’s Picnic 2005 (The Main Stage) and Molly Malones.
The band have been working closely with a number of other acts from a variety of backgrounds. Betty Power have shared bills with other up and coming acts including Big Three (formerly China Red), Orson, OTH, RED, Ared Kayden, Fulltronic and Michael McCarthy. They have also shared bills and continue to work closely with some industry greats such as Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night), Thunderstruck (with Chris Slade from AC/DC) and Steve Ferone (Average White Band).
In August of 2005, thanks to support from the retail chain, Target, Betty Power’s single "New Best Friend" sold 35,000 copies nationwide in less than three months.
BP's track "Prove Me Rite" was featured on the WB favorite, Summerland, during last season's finale. More love is coming on the film and television front. The band is slated to make an appearance on Fox’s “The OC,” and two of their songs are being considered for upcoming episodes of that show, in addition to “The West Wing”, “ER”, and “Related.” Other upcoming television appearances include QTN's "Queer Edge" hosted by the fabulous Miss Sandra Bernhart. The band and their infectious music have already garnered interest from producers for “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, who are excited at the prospect of showing the band's debut national TV performance.
On the biz side... Digital and retail distribution deals are in the works; strategic alliances are being formed; ditto plans for an east coast tour and UK tour in the spring of 2006.
